Solid Gold

Any Natura Brand

Please never use any food from Purina, because they are all crap, and you would never want to feed a pet that you loved the Purina brand. Here is thier website:

Never use Science Diet, either. That is a very crappy brand. If your dog is ever sick, the vet will recommend Science Diet Prescription Diet. Don’t get it, because it is actually very bad for your pet. Here is their website:

where can i buy halo, and what other brands for cats and dogs are as good but a little cheaper possibly?

okay halo is more expensive than our old pet food and my dad wants to have a brand that is just as good (no by products, or any kinds of meals, preservatives, grains, etc.) but not more expensive! i mean really, how does he expect to have higher quality ingredients, REAL ingredients, and have the price be lower than it is for more of the way cheaper and disgusting meal and things of that sort? but oh well, that is what my quest is. i need a brand for cats and the same or different brand for dogs that fits those requirements but that is cheaper than .99 for 17.5 lbs of the cat food and cheaper than .99 for 30 lbs of the dog food. tell me, is it even possible? and there is a flexibility on the price, but it has to be more or equal to the lbs.
and please do not tell me that meals and by products and grains and certain preservatives are okay, because i really just do not believe that. i mean, the tocopherols are fine with me, i dont care about the harmless preservatives of that sort but the stronger ones, like EQ i think is what its called are the ones i dont want in the food.
also, i do not have time to cook homemade food for our pets so do not bother telling me to do that, please.
thanks in advance for your help.
PS, where can you buy halo anyway? and i don’t mean online, i mean what store in indianapolis, IN can you buy it? petco? petco would be great, because it’s not too far away. can you buy it at petco? and any brands you suggest please tell me where they can be purchased if you know. thanks.

my cats poop smells really horrible. could something be wrong?

my cats poop smells really bad. sometimes she wont cover it up and it smells even worse. i can smell it when im like 20+ feet away. shes only 1 yr old and fixed. my other 5 yr old cat has never smelled like that. also her poop is very loose. so im thinking something could be wrong with her. so when i get paid this week im gonna take a stool sample in. will a stool sample be enough to be entirely positive every things ok with her? also it cant be her diet because i feed her organic food. + some of my dogs homemade food but only the rice and meet.
what could be wrong with her???

raw diet for cats?

What are the best things to feed your cat when putting them on a raw diet? Ground beef, ground turkey, chicken stock mixed with it? I’ve heard various things, but what’s worked best for you?

I’m switching my dog to a better diet, a homemade dog food diet–not raw– so I figure switching Sophie would be good too! I know raw diets are better for cats than they are for dogs, and I think Soph would love it. So what do you think I should buy or make?

Taurine in commercial dog foods?

I was always brought up to believe that dogs shouldn’t eat cat food on a regular basis not only because feline and canine nutritional needs are different, but because cat foods are supplemented with taurine – which is essential for cats but can be harmful to dogs in the long term. I’ve seen the same belief propogated quite a bit on YA as well by other owners.

However, I was scoping different dog food brands in the pet shop today (purely out of interest as I feed homemade natural anyway) and noticed that a lot seemed to containe taurine – amongst other useless additives and junk. Whilst I’m aware that many/most big-brand petfoods are poor quality, surely such additives wouldn’t be put into food if they actually had the potential to be toxic? I’ve also browsed through a variety of food studies in the past; half of which seem to suggest that taurine is good as it prevents certain heart conditions, half which state that it’s potentially toxic.

Who’s right? Am I misinformed?

Pet treat recipes?

Hey!

If you have ANY pet food or treat recipes, please send them to me!
I am going to be doing my own homemade pet food home business for a bit of extra $, and to feed my own pets (3 cats, 1 dog)
Also, any ideas you may have on packaging the treats/food would be great… basically, tell me what you would like to see and purchase, if you were in the market for pet treats.
-What kind of pet would you buy treats for? (Bird, cat, dog, rodent)
-What packaging would appeal to you?
-What price ranges would you find acceptable?
-Would you buy the item online, at a reasonable price and shipping rate?
-Would you buy a gift basket for a pet, or someone with a pet?

Any feedback would be appreciated! Thanks! ;)

Supplements to aide in making raw food for cats?

Yes, I did already ask this but no one really answered my question…please don’t tell me I shouldn’t switch my cat’s diet as it is neccessary for my one cat’s health as 1 is sick because of the commercial food.

I have been thinking about switching my cats to a raw diet for quite some time. Since I’m going to be getting a dog soon, I’ve decided there is no better time than now to really work towards switching them to a new diet. I do have a couple of questions though…first of all, if I am understanding the information I have read so far correctly cats have much more extensive nutritional needs than dogs…this slightly freaks me out as I’m afraid I won’t supplement their raw diet correctly. So look online I found this pre-mix for raw foods it’s called alnutrin, does anyone know anything about this? Do you think it is quality? You have to add raw meet and water that’s it. It’s fairly cheap w/o shipping and says it makes 32 pounds of food.
Also, I can’t find anything like this for dogs…is it because it isn’t necessarily needed? Can anyone recommend a pre-mix of quality for raw diets for dogs?
Does anyone have any recipes for making a homemade dry kibble, as I would still like to free feed my cats throughout the day, or any other recommendations for switching my cats (and soon to be dog) to a raw diet?

Here is the link to the stuff I am looking at http://www.knowwhatyoufeed.com/alnutrin_with_calcium.html
