PLEASE ONLY ANSWER THIS QUESTION IF YOU FEED RAW (BARF)DIET TO YOUR DOGS! Commercial or Homemade?

I just switched from Orijen Grain free and home cooked turkey and veg to Raw food. I am using The Honest Kitchen Force and Natures Variety Chicken, Turkey and Lamb. I want to know about anyone else’s success or failure on Raw (BARF) Diets. PLEASE Don’t tell me it’s expensive, etc., cause I don’t care. But do tell me if you use commercial or do it yourself! Tell me what changes you see in your dog! Tell me how you think it is benefitting your dogs, and if you reverted to cooked food again for reasons OTHER than money. Thanks!!!!
Yes I give my dog Cod Liver Oil, (1/8 tsp) and a Probiotic and Enzyme powder added to the food. The nutritionist I spoke to said that since my dog was so healthy already and since she ate probably the best kibble there is (lol, she said if there is such a thing…) that I wouldn’t notice too much of a ‘bad’ reaction in her, as she never ate grains anyway, and certainly never corn soy or wheat.

what is best to feed a bitch (female dog) in heat?

Is there anything I can make to help sooth her tummy homemade chicken broth… Baby rice pablum? I am a small home breeder. I am trying to come up with safe soothing safe foods to feed them. Maybe to increase fertility?
For all you ppl talking smack I have an excellent reputation. I do not breed in my back yard and own two dogs one of which is in fact spayed. I am and will be opening up my own kennel and will do my part in taking away from puppy mill sales while raising healthy pups in my home.

I can not change the world but I can change what happens in my home and I can nto reduce the pups born in puppy mills but I can do my part in reducing the need for them to be in business. MORE SMALL HOME LOVING BREEDERS ARE NEEDED. Small and loving being the key words. I am a stay at home mom and have the time and am always and will always search for more answers and tips, we can never know it all.

Thank you to those who have shown support and to those who have their heads in their butts come and join the rest of the world and stop being so hateful.

Raising loving pups is a good thing, it’s definately not 4 everyone, & its alot of work but it has proved to be fullfilling for me, & I love them all.

Is this safe to feed my dog? Also; how much?

Until I can try and convince my mom to let me cook homemade meals for our dog, I’ve been trying to think of some ways to put a bit of nutrients into her dog food (Beneful.) I know that stuff is nasty; but my mother isn’t budging about changing. Our dog is “9 years old and has never had a problem before… when she eats people food she barfs.”

Anyway; I’ve began to cook a cup of dog food with about half an egg and mix it in with a few lightly steamed carrots. After the walks I give her each morning, she gets half a cup of the food… and at night, gets the other half cup. However, now I’m wondering if this is alright to do.

Eggs are a food my dog can handle and I know they have protein. I add to carrots to try and give a few extra nutrients along with the disgusting Beneful.
Is this safe to feed her everyday? Also; is 1 cup of food for a 20 pound dog enough to fill her for the day?

Thank you!
The ingredients of Beneful is what bothers me, using fillers and such. I’ve studied what goes into dog food… and, it isn’t entirely healthy for the dogs it seems. Thats what I mean by saying its gross; because I’ve learned low-quality dog foods aren’t the best.

Couple questions for people who feed homemade RAW?

Please help. I am so new to this….and completely clueless.
If you feed raw, do you ever sometimes feed cooked meats during another meal time? Ie. left over chicken/turkey from your own food? What if you forget to thaw a meal out for the next day if basically what I’m asking.

What are some weight baring bones to avoid for raw meaty bones? What are some good raw meaty bones that can I buy at the grocery store? How many to give a week? Do these replace meals?

On the days that you dont give raw meaty bones, do you add eggshells for calcium?

I can’t really afford Aunt Jeni, Bravo, or Primal….so I want to try to make my own raw diet. Can someone give me the breakdown of how much a 25 lb dog needs in terms of % of muscle meat, % bone, % organs, % veggies?

Do you give one organ per day and do you vary it? Like heart today, liver tomorrow, kidney on wednesday?

Do you add eggs, cottage cheese, goat cheese, yogurt? How often? How much? Nonfat? Lowfat?

Do you feed veggies steamed, raw, raw pureed? How often?

What treats do you give?

Do you give oils? Salmon oil, cod liver, hemp, borage, flax seed, primrose?

What supplements do you give? Vitamin E, A, C?

Thanks soooooooooooo much!!! No, seriously. I am asking here because I have read so many various things that differ. My head is spinning.

Can I feed my rats a low fat dog food along with veggies/fruits and lab blocks?

I’m getting a pair of male rats today and I don’t really know what to feed them. I have read many different options of homemade mixes, but I also saw that many people feed their rats a low fat dog food that has between 16%-18% protein and somewhere around 4%-5% or so of fat. I was just wondering if it would be enough to feed them a dog food like this along with fruits, vegetables and lab blocks every day or if I should feed them something else.

Dog with Pancreatitis and Oxalate Crystals, what to feed?

My 6 year old Cavalier King Charles has been fighting crystals for almost 2 years. He had bladder surgery 7 months ago where a large oxalate crystal was removed. At that time they switched him to Prescription Diet U/D food (no treats). His urinalysis has been better, however he became extremely lethargic with daily diarrhea and pain in his groin/stomach/back. Now he’s been diagnosed with pancreatitis. We are making him homemade food of turkey, rice, and peas for now, to lower the fat content and help the pancreatitis, but we aren’t sure what that will do for the crystals. Any ideas?
The vet seems perplexed as well. We agreed to switch to a low fat diet and retest soon, but she expressed concern that we were trading one problem for another. My guess is that she’s researching options too, she said that she hasn’t seen these two problems together before.

What everyday homemade diet to feed maltese (1 year old)?

I want to make dog food for my maltese. I was wondering what are the proper nutrients a dog needs, such as percentages of meat, carbs and veggies, I’ve researched but found several different answers, i want to know what meats they prefer, what i should use for grains, and vegs. as a balanced everyday diet for her. Just want to make sure she gets all the vitamins and such that she needs and i don’t trust consumer dog foods. Any help will be greatly appriciated :) Thank you.

What homemade food should I feed my small dogs?

I have two dachshunds and a jack russell and they are my babies! One of my dachshunds recently got pancreatitis and the vet had him on a low fat digestive food for two weeks and she suggested feeding him some brown rice and eggs and other easily digested foods. I got to thinking that I should start incorporating that in with dry food, maybe half and half? I have them on Wellness right now which I have read is a great food. Any suggestions for what to throw in to supplement that food and how much should these little guys be eating? They are all between 13 and 20 pounds, not overweight, about average, and they are all about three years old. Please help!
