It was just suggested that our puppy may be suffering from IBD. I was wondering if anyone had any trips or tricks that have helped their dogs with this condition. (Like somewhere I read adding fiber to their diet helps – such as oat bran or pumpkin)
Also, we are going to be doing a homemade bland diet of rice and boiled beef with a multi-viatmin suppliment for now but we would eventually like to find a commerical dog food that would work for her. We will NOT used Iams, Pedigree, or Hills’s presciptions diets for IBD as they contain animal by products and cancer causing preservatives that I refuse to let my dog ingest. Royal Canin seems to have an okay IBD diet but does anyone have any other recommendations?
Note: Please refrain from any explanations of what the disease is, causes, etc. I work in the medical field and am well versed on the subject and do not need this information.
Thanks in advance for any advice.
ISIS – here are some good sites to help you undestand IBD.

I found seriously horrific info online about harmful pet food and have decided to give my puppy only homemade food. Take this one for example: http://www.naturalnews.com/012647.html
My concerns are:
- Should I put any amount of salt in his food? I read the labels of dog food and do not see any salt /sodium chroride.
- I strip the skin off the chicken before cooking. Is the chicken skin ok for the puppy? I thought skin is bad but online says pets need fat.
Please do not respond by telling me to feed him commercial pet food.
Thank you.

I know puppies chew things.
What can they chew besides the designed toys?
I heard ice cubes help reduce soreness in gums.

What if you don’t know what the puppy was eating before?
How do you slowly change it?Also, commercial dog food has some pretty gruesome things inside it,any suggestion to quality brands or any homemade food?Sadly all they sell here is ‘Pedigree’ dog food.Yea right.

Games like tug o war can teach a puppy to act aggressive. Are there other games it can play with out this teaching of aggression?

Hi! I am isabella. My friend let me on her account so i could ask this question. Alright, so here is everything I have experience about in dogs. I am between the ages of 10-13. I have a sis who is 8.
Ok, so we live in an apartment. we want a small female mutt that we will get nuetered. i will take her for 12 walks a day ( i am not lying. i feel really guilty about them being inside) my parents work at home for the most part. i have spend almost 5 years looking up info on dogs. i did a dog walking service for about 5 weeks. i had to stop because the people who i walked for were moving. i will feed him/her twice a day. once in morning and once in early evening. here is my feeding plan. please tell me if it is suitable.
orijen or innova food with homemade wet food
my friends dog comes over all the time when we have to babysit him and i walk him like30 times! i never get tired of dogs! i will also brush his teeth daily becuz i know about tarter buildup. i know that dogs cost (at the minnimum) about 900 a yr. i will buy him tons of toys. i have no animals, so s/he will get tons of praise. i will also take him to obedience classes. i will introduce him to tons of animals and people at an early age. i will groom him or her daily according to their coat. i will also bathe them as needed. i will bring them to a good vet for checkups and vaccinations. i understand how this is a lifetime commintment. this isnt needed, but i will go to hosted family reunions if she had brothers and sisters. i will rescue him or her. when i rarely go on vacation, i will take him with up or bring him to a friends or a doggy hotel. i will play with it regularly. also when i walk it, i will bring him to differnt places so he doesnt get bored. his walks will be at the very least 40-an hour. again, at the least! i grew up with dogs my entire life i know i havent listed everything, but by the looks of it, do you think im ready for a puppy (my parents agreed but i dont wawnna get one until i am positive that i can care for him or her properly. thanks!!!!
Sorry, a part didn’t make sense. The walks will be 40 minutes to one hour at the very least. Thx!!!!

please help, she wont eat her normal dog food iams puppy, she is an adult dog ( 1 yr ) but my mom REFUSES to buy her and different food. She wont even take one nibble from it! she is getting SO SKINNY!! i was wondering if i should add peanut butter to her food or make her a total home made meal, she likes homemade the best. i worry because she DOES NOT eat her food, but when we go to my aunts they have dogs and she gobbles down the senior dog food, u think she gets tired of one type of food? and if this helps she sneaks into my baby brothers room and trys to eat the poop out of his diaper, yea GROSS! i catch her every time but u know babys they strip so its not my fault. im 16 and my chihuahuas name is pepita… Any ideas guys? ( sorry for rambling on like that )
also ive had lots of dogs in my past and they have NEVER refused to eat the food they were given. we only feed iams and purinaby the way
ok she hs had ONE home cooked meal and that was when she was about 6 months old cause the vet roccomended that. and she may eat one bit everymonth i tried canned over her dry she at it but i cant get my mom to go back and buy more
i know about all the hazzards and things but i only dont know what i can do to get her to eat HER food she will eat anybody else’s and i asked for ideas
ok
1. I NEVER IN HER LIFE have changed her food,
2. I DONT FEED HER HOME MADE MEALS!! she had one ONCE when she was about 7 months old

When my puppy grows a little older i want to slowly switch her to homemade food, since it won’t have any chemicals or preservatives.
in her food i want to put
-eggs
-chicken
-vegetables (corn, carrots, peas)
-a little vegetable oil
-rice
does this sound good and how much of each should i put? also, will she need supplements (vitamins)?
umm im not starting my dog on raw food. everything will be cooked. no bones.
darksong- im not against raw feeding, im just not gonna do it with my dog
darksong- your right. i do need more research. that’s why i was asking this question

we have got a 1 year old Black Labrador 2 months ago from a nice person that said they got the puppy a little early than they were supposed to (they didn’t know how old the pup was supposed to be at the time, until a week or two after) from the mother (about 3 days so it was 5 1/2 weeks old when they got him).
well my concern is.. every single time we give the dog a little bit of human food (not sickening food) or even Bones, he always ends up throwing it up, sometimes the pieces vomited were undissolved chunks of food or bone. we just thought he’d eventually get used to eating these kinds of food, but its been 2 months and still he throws up or makes different color soft or watery diarrhea
he can eat all brands of dog food and treats just no bones or human food.
SO..is his digestion problems from not getting the right amount of nutrition from its mother since it was separated at a early age.
we have taken him to the vet for check ups and they said he was perfectly fine, but not for this exact problem
WELL..even if this is not the cause..can someone just tell me how to solve the problem like some homemade medicine or something to help the dog’s stomach.
Thanks

Why or why not?
I’m looking into supplements before I purchase my puppy, and was wondering how many of you actually feed supplements. Please tell me why you feed them or why you don’t. I would like a detailed answer =)
Oh, and what type of food do you feed? Homemade or brand food? If homemade, what recipes do you use? If brand, what brand do you buy?
Thanks!
As I stated, I don’t have my dog yet. So they’re not on a brand of food. When a puppy is 9 weeks old, switching food over slowly doesn’t affect them compared to a 6 month old dog who’s had the same food all his life.
