My dog always has poop-related problems?

I rescued my dog from the streets about a year and a half ago. I think she’s a Havanese, or some kind of mix. She was hit by a car long before I found her.

Ever since I’ve had, she’d had problems with her poop. The first time I took her to the vet for blood in her stool, the vet told me she was on her period. I had to go back a second time with a lovely sample!

Since then, she’s had seriously bloody stool twice more. I was told it was a bacterial infection all 3 times and was fine after some antibiotics.

She doesn’t have parvo or corona, and was checked for parasites. She also never has a solid poop. It’s not usually diarrhea, but sometimes it is. Other times it comes out like mucus. There are also times when her poop and her butt have a terrible almost a bit of a metallic smell. But she’s never lethargic and always has a healthy appetite.

I’m not sure about the quality of the food I’m feeding her. My other dog is fine on the same diet. I went a couple of month making homemade food with a recipe I found in a training book (rice, boiled chicken, vegetables, a bit of oil). It didn’t make a difference though!

I live in Korea where going to a vet is really cheap, but communication is really really difficult. I was hoping someone could give me advice about what to ask my vet to look for? It’s kind of difficult giving him the long complicated list of symptoms.

I appreciate any help you can give me!
Thanks!

Tiny female english mastiff?

My english mastiff puppy is 3 2/3 months old and only weighs 35 pounds. She is 21 inches high at midback when standing square. What is normal for her age? When I got her she was extremely small, emaciated, and very sick. She is really healthy now, and eats well, though she doesn’t like dog food so I make it homemade from meats, vegetables, fruits, some rice, eggs, and dog food incorporated. She eats really well. She is also taking puppy vitamins and bone and joint supplements.

Is she okay, should I worry? Thank you.

My corgi won ‘t eat? Please help me…?

I have a male Pembroke Welsh Corgi named Ein (very corny, I know…) and he just turned 10 months old. He’s only about 10kgs and seems pretty small for a corgi.

The problem is… I used to feed him Innova for puppies and he loved it. He would finish everything in less than 5 minutes. But after a few months when summer came, he stopped eating… I switched him to Innova Evo small bites and it was the same thing… He wouldn’t eat it unless I mixed it with gravy, canned food, or homemade chicken and vegetable broth. Sometimes, he would just finish the meat and leave his kibbles untouched… But he would eat his kibbles if I feed it to him one kibble at a time… I don’t know if it’s because it’s summer that caused his appetite to go bad or if it’s because he doesn’t like the food… He likes his biscuits though but sometimes he doesn’t eat it either. He would just lick it, carry it around in his mouth, and bring it back to me. The only thing he shows interest in now is this chicken jerky I give him as snacks, meat, or whatever it is that I’m eating… I don’t usually give him what I’m eating unless it’s chicken, vegetables, or fruits that he can eat. And even at that, I try to limit it and suck the sauce/salt away before giving it to him. Maybe it’s my fault that he’s become so picky? He won’t even touch his kibbles on his own even when his stomach is growling. I’m desperate and I don’t know what to do.

Even though he’s not eating, he still shows eagerness to play and to go out for walks. He’s normal either than the refusing to eat part. He sleeps often though, but barks while looking at the same corner of the room every night. I try to keep him in an air conditioned room nowadays but he still won’t touch his food…

Helppppppppppppp I’m extremely desperate T.T
I will consider bringing him to the vet since his refusing to eat seems to be getting worse lately…

Any advice is happily accepted so please do help. He’s my first dog and I love him very very much…

How can I up my dog's calcium intake naturally?

I feed my dog a special homemade diet of either beef or chicken, and sometimes fish or lamb, vegetables and brown rice, but I’d like to add some calcium to her diet naturally. I know that yogurt is a good source, as well as ground up bones (but I usually just plain don’t have the time/energy to do that). Cheese is also good for calcium, but kind of high in fat. What are some other ways to add calcium to a dog’s diet? She’s a pretty picky eater, and literally will not eat food with a supplement in it. I have to force feed it to her by turning it into a paste, and I hate having to do that everyday.
We have different vets, and they all suck. The reason we have multiple ones is because we used to live in different cities. Anywho… they give stupid advice, literally. Like, "just feed cooked chicken, and that’s good enough." Riiiight.. She does eat bones sometimes, but like I said, she’s extremely picky and won’t even eat her tasty daily food. Sometimes she eats lamb shank bones, cooked, but rarely.

What to do with our 12 year old yellow lab with failing kidneys?

Our dear friend, Dusty, is a 12 year old yellow lab and has been suffering with failing kidneys. I’ve read a lot on the internet but need some personal advice. Dusty is a large dog and weighs about 115 lbs. He has been drinking a lot of water, all day and night. He can’t control his bladder now and has many accidents in the house. He has lost a little weight and is on a homemade diet due to a dog food allergy. His diet is mostly rice, potatoes, vegetables, chicken, canned salmon, yogurt and cottage cheese. His appetite is still very good.

What are his options now? The vet believes since he’s older, large, and has bad hips, that it’s time to start thinking about putting him down. I don’t want to extend his suffering with pills or therapies that might only keep him here a short time. This is the hardest decision I’ve ever had to make. If someone has been through this before, please let me know what options we have. Thanks!

Need help with my grand children's nutrition, please?

My daughter started to work for the first time in her life and is going to school at night. She moved in with me and my two grandson, 9 and 13.;

The problem is that I make dinner for them, but my grandchildren are used to pizza, sodas, hamburger, hot dogs and chips, maybe some chocolate milk.

I am desperate about how to go about getting them to eat healthy foods, vegetables, fruits, etc… It brakes my heart when I prepare a mixed salad, some homemade mashed potatoes, baked chicken and they just won’t eat them and I have to prepare hamburgers or macaroni and cheese.

Is there something I can do to get their taste buds change, a book, take them to the doctor, something?
Thanks to you all, you have lifted that guilty spirit I had. I will apply your advises.

Will this food be okay for my dog?

When my puppy grows a little older i want to slowly switch her to homemade food, since it won’t have any chemicals or preservatives.

in her food i want to put
-eggs
-chicken
-vegetables (corn, carrots, peas)
-a little vegetable oil
-rice

does this sound good and how much of each should i put? also, will she need supplements (vitamins)?

Is this a good homemade diet for dogs?

I’d like to be sure I’m feeding my dog the right things, so I did a little bit of research.

50% grains (boiled/steamed)
25% vegetables (lightly boiled/steamed)
25% protein (light cooked meat/raw meat)
Occasional raw egg and fish.

What do you guys think? Is this ideal? And if you think I should feed my dog those products in the stores, tell me why. I’ve researched that too, but I can’t find anything positive about feeding dogs store-bought dog food, except that its easier to do. (I’m not trying to be rude or anything. I’m just trying to get things right.)

Here are some other questions that I’d be thankful for you to answer:
1. How can I make sure there aren’t harmful bacterias on the raw meat I feed my dog? Does freezing the meat for a few days really work?
2. Is cooked white rice okay for dogs to eat?

Thanks so much for the help! If you’re planning on posting anything negative or unhelpful, just don’t post at all.
Ok so if I’m interpreting your messages right, I should feed my dog something more like this, right?

75% meat
and the other 25% can be raw eggs, vegetables, and fruit.
No grains, or at least, not that much. ;-)
Tell me if I’m wrong.
"Love is a GSD", thank you. : ) i took a look at your site too, and it makes sense to me. When I was young, I helped take care of a friend’s dog, and I fed him a diet sort of like the diet you describe. He was healthy during the time we cared for him, until the owners came back and continued feeding cheap dog food bought from Costco. Huge difference. He was once a healthy, normal weight dog with a shiny coat, but then now he’s way underweight. Death to dog food.
I just have one more question. Is cow milk okay for dogs? I hear a lot of people say its bad, but don’t they drink milk when they’re born?

Feeding your dog a raw diet vs cooked meat? What's best?

I’m making the switch to feed my dog homemade dog food and am reading alot about feeding raw. Any other pros and cons out there. Other differences are whether to feed vegetables and grains. I’m reading 60% meat, 20% grain, 20% veg. These numbers keep changing! What is the right combination?
